“As an actor, your job is to connect the moments.”

Capturing and holding onto people’s focus is. A. Skill.

As an actor, I work on doing my best to keep the interest of those considered my audience for 10 seconds to then get to the next 10 seconds to then get to the next 10 seconds and so on. If I can connect those moments, I have created something wonderful and amazing and probably funny that will make you cry. That will give you all of these amazing feelings.

That’s my job.

One problem that I’ve seen in some creatives or in creatives that gets stuck is that their focused on too big of a picture all at once. Another quote that I really like is “eat the elephant one bite at a time”. Obviously, I’m not asking you to eat an elephant, that's ridiculous. But what we’re saying is elephants are humongous. So if we were to fictitiously, hypothetically eat an elephant we couldn’t do it all in one bite or even one sitting. The task at hand is too great.

The best thing that you can do as a creative or even just a human is connect. Those. Moments. 

If you haven’t caught on yet, connecting the moments is about being present. As an actor being present, makes your performance authentic. As a human, being present creates connections between you and other people. Think about this for a moment, the people that you would say care about you the most are present with you in every moment that you can think of when you say that they’ve shown they care.

Make sure you do the same thing for others and connect those moments so that you can connect with everyone you care for. 

Make sure you connect those moments so you can ensure you have a life that is filled with moments you’ve lived rather than moments that just happened.
