The adult is mature; the child is immature. The hallmark of the immature is to shirk responsibility; the characteristic of the mature is to take responsibility. While we understand that so much of being an effective human being is based on being responsible, the message that comes to us from society at large is "I'm not responsible," and "It's not my fault."
