Im frühen 5. Jahrhundert bricht in Britannien eine neue Ära an: Mehrere germanische Gruppen landen in Britannien, erobern, vermischen und gründen eigenständige Herrschaften. Aus Kleinkönigreichen entstehen die Königreiche – Essex, Sussex, Wessex, Kent, East Anglia, Mercia und Northumbria und daraus wiederum die spätere Heptarchie der Angelsachsen. Aber wer war eigentlich der erste König Englands?
