Israel Destroys Iran’s Nuclear and Missile Capabilities
The time is now 02:00 AM in New York, I'm Noa Levi and this is the latest Israel Today: Ongoing War Report.
At two a.m., tensions remain high in the region amid ongoing military and security developments. Israeli military sources report that during the night, Israeli citizens attempted to enter the city of Shechem without coordination, in violation of legal restrictions. Israeli Defense Forces responded by blocking access to the city and dispersing crowds. Some Israeli civilians entered Joseph’s Tomb in Shechem, leading to violent clashes with local Palestinians. All civilians involved were evacuated by the IDF and transferred to police for further investigation. Authorities emphasize that entering Area A without authorization is dangerous and illegal.
In another incident, a group of religious Jews entered Shechem to pray at Joseph’s tomb but were attacked by Palestinians throwing stones. Four individuals sustained minor injuries before security forces intervened and extracted them. Due to security concerns, Jewish visits to Joseph’s Tomb are now only permitted with IDF escort.
Meanwhile, reports from the Gaza Strip indicate that Hamas remains degraded but still holds hostages taken during the October 7 attack, with ongoing efforts to secure their release. The situation in Lebanon also remains volatile; Walid Jumblatt, a prominent Lebanese politician, called on armed groups to surrender their weapons, warning that normalization with Israel could reshape regional history.
On the international front, Lebanon's political landscape shows signs of potential change, with Jumblatt advocating for disarmament amid regional tensions. In the domestic arena, a serious traffic accident occurred in Tel Aviv, where a 50-year-old woman was critically injured and transported to Ichilov Hospital following a collision involving two vehicles.
Israel’s military has concluded Operation "With Alligator," a significant campaign against Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities. The IDF reports full success, claiming to have severely damaged Iran’s nuclear program by destroying thousands of centrifuges, including the ability to enrich uranium to 90%. The operation also targeted Iran’s missile production, destroying approximately 200 missile launchers—half of Iran’s missile launching capacity—while significantly degrading its air defense, with about 80% of Iranian missile defense systems and 70 radars destroyed. Over 1,500 sorties were conducted, attacking more than 900 targets across Iran, including command centers of the Revolutionary Guards in Tehran. The IDF estimates the killing of 200 to 300 IRGC and Basij fighters in the final days of the operation.
Despite these successes, Israeli officials caution that Iran remains a persistent threat. Damage to Israeli communities includes over 2,300 homes damaged and more than 13,000 Israelis displaced. The IDF emphasizes that the Iranian threat continues, and Israel prepares for future conflicts, aiming to strengthen its military readiness.
In the West Bank, dozens of Haredi Jews entered Shechem without coordination, risking their lives and those of security personnel. They were attacked by Palestinians with stones and sticks; some were injured, and IDF forces responded to rescue and evacuate them. Several were brought to the Arara checkpoint for medical treatment.
In cultural news, thousands gathered at the Western Wall to celebrate the beginning of the month of Tammuz with prayers and gratitude for the military victories during Operation "With Alligator." The mood was one of celebration and reflection on the perceived divine intervention that contributed to Israel’s recent military successes.
