The time is now 10:00 AM in New York, I'm Noa Levi and this is the latest Israel Today: Ongoing War Report.
Today, tensions in the Middle East remain high as Israel and Iran are engaged in a complex and ongoing conflict that has drawn international concern. Over the past 24 hours, Israeli military forces launched significant operations targeting Iranian regime assets in Tehran, including strikes on regime targets and the killing of hundreds of Iranian security personnel, in response to a barrage of missile attacks. Since early morning, Iran has launched over five waves of missiles towards Israel, resulting in the death of four civilians, many injuries, and extensive damage across southern Israel. In total, over 560 missiles and 1,110 attack drones have been fired by Iran, impacting more than sixty sites, including residential buildings. The Israeli Defense Forces have responded by targeting military infrastructure in Iran, including a radar array near Tehran. Despite these military actions, the situation remains volatile, with Israel on high alert and damages estimated at over two billion shekels.
In a notable development, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office announced that the ceasefire, set for 7:00 a.m., was violated shortly before it took effect when Iran launched additional missile attacks. Following these violations, Israel conducted a limited but symbolic strike on a radar installation near Tehran. US President Donald Trump publicly criticized Israel for its military response, urging them to refrain from further escalation, and emphasized that Iran will not be allowed to rebuild its nuclear facilities. Trump’s comments reflected ongoing diplomatic tensions, especially after Iran dismissed any ceasefire agreements, asserting they would only halt attacks if Israel ceases its air campaign. Meanwhile, the Israeli military reported the elimination of high-ranking Iranian officials, including the intelligence commander of the Basij, Mohammad-Taqi Yusufwand, and deputy head of Iran’s intelligence apparatus, Alireza Lotfi, in Israeli strikes.
The situation has also sparked large public gatherings in Iran, with the government announcing celebrations scheduled for this evening in Tehran’s Revolution Square, heralding what they call a "victory celebration." However, the political rhetoric remains tense, with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi reaffirming that Iran will not violate the ceasefire as long as Israel does not break it first, highlighting the fragile nature of any agreed truce.
Internationally, the United States has played a cautious role. American officials reportedly communicated a clear message to Iran through Qatar: "No nonsense, no firing." US President Trump, meanwhile, expressed frustration with Israel’s military actions, warning them not to proceed with attacks on Iran, citing concerns about regional stability and the risk of chaos. He reaffirmed that Iran will never rebuild its nuclear capabilities but also suggested that both Iran and Israel have violated the ceasefire. Trump’s comments have underscored the delicate balance the US seeks to maintain in supporting Israel’s security while avoiding broader regional escalation.
Amid these developments, the civilian toll continues to rise. The Palestinian Ministry of Health reports that in Gaza, seventy-four people have been killed and nearly three hundred injured in the past day alone, with total casualties since the conflict intensified reaching over fifty-six thousand deaths and more than 132,000 injuries. Israeli authorities also report that over 2,700 students have been evacuated from their homes in southern Israel due to the ongoing hostilities.
In addition to military and diplomatic updates, domestic issues such as the readi
