Supernatural: Bitten (8x04) | Recap & Lore

Season 8 Episode 4 Published 1 year, 4 months ago
Description

Supernatural Season 8, Episode 4, Bitten recap đŸș A blood-soaked crime scene, a laptop that says “Play me,” and a found-footage werewolf origin story on Denim-wrapped Nightmares, a Supernatural rewatch podcast.

Sam and Dean bust into a college house covered in blood and find a video waiting for them. What plays is the story of three roommates, a camera, and a bite that changes everything. The episode is mostly told through their footage, and the brothers are the outsiders this time.

Episode Highlights:

  • A crime scene, a severed ankle still wearing a Chuck, and a laptop with a Post-it that says “Play me”
  • Kate likes cute guys with great cameras, and Brian’s face says everything
  • A Lord of the Flies lecture that explains every “piggy” comment (great catch, LA)
  • Sam and Dean roll the Impala under the crime scene tape and get called Starsky and Hutch
  • The bloody sheet is back, and Berly feels nostalgic
  • Michael accidentally rips a bathroom door off its hinges, then lifts Kate with one arm
  • A giant bong, two “FBI agents,” and a transformation with excellent teeth
  • Wait, isn’t it the wrong time of the month? The hosts puzzle over the pure-blood rules
  • Brian hacks the diner’s cameras, and the “lovers’ spat” jokes finally land
  • “You’re a vampire... I mean, werewolf,” and a found-footage finale that even impresses Dean

Both hosts loved Michael, who’s a total cutie with a good personality. Berly loves it whenever the show pays homage to horror, and she likes that this one skipped the Paranormal Activity route and felt more like a found-footage superhero movie. It does drag in places, though. The gore award goes to the opening scene, and Berly is still not sure about Supernatural’s new werewolf rules.

In the lore segment, LA revisits the werewolf lore from Heart: the Epic of Gilgamesh, King Lycaon serving Zeus a very bad dinner, and the wolf pelts in the Saga of the Völsungs. Then she covers real-life “werewolves” like the Werewolf of Dole and Peter Stubbe of Bedburg, along with an Australian hospital study linking violent incidents to the full moon. The medical explanations include clinical lycanthropy, hypertrichosis, and Peter the Wild Boy, who was kept by two English kings. Plus, Berly makes sure everyone knows about Michael Sheen in Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.

“I’m pretty sure FBI agents don’t say ‘awesome’ that much.” – Kate
