BONUS EPISODE -- A Reading of Desiderata by Max Ehrmann

Season 2 Episode 179 Published 10 months ago
Description

Send me your prayer requests

Every now and then we have a bonus episode that’s either curated or created by me intended to inspire, inform, or entertain you.

Not long ago the phrase “sticks and stones will break my bone but words can never hurt me” could be heard on playgrounds throughout the US.

It’s true in many cases but not all. Words can hurt.

Or they can heal.

The can console.

They can motivate, empower, and spur people to action.

And they have the power to deliver peace to busy souls.

Sometimes it only takes a few words like "So what?"

Or "Cowboy up."

Other times, when words are carefully chosen and properly placed, they can have an impact like your favorite book.

This is a reading of a personal reflection written in 1927 by poet and lawyer Max Ehrmann called Desiderata – which means something needed or desired or longed for.

I first read it probably 30 years ago. Like Bible verses that just stick with you, so much of what Erhmann wrote has endured.

I hope you find as much peace and consolation as I have.
