The time is now 03:00 PM in New York, I'm Noa Levi and this is the latest Israel Today: Ongoing War Report.

Today, the Middle East remains a highly volatile theater of conflict and diplomatic activity. Iran's top diplomat, Foreign Minister Abdessamad Arakchi, made clear that Tehran refuses to engage in negotiations over its uranium enrichment program as long as Israeli military strikes continue. Iran considers its nuclear advancements a "red line," and recent reports indicate that Tehran is not willing to halt uranium enrichment or discuss its missile capabilities, despite ongoing talks in Geneva that Tehran describes as serious and open to future meetings. Meanwhile, Iran’s military activities are under scrutiny; overnight, Israel's air force intercepted and destroyed three ground-to-ground missile launchers aimed at Israel, and a drone unit was targeted following the detection of Iranian soldiers, including a commander responsible for multiple missile systems, attempting to execute a launch.

In Gaza, the Israeli Defense Forces and Security Agency have eliminated Ibrahim Abu Shumala, Hamas' financial chief and aide to its military deputy. Abu Shumala was instrumental in transferring millions of dollars to Hamas terrorists, supporting rearmament and salaries amid ongoing hostilities. Israel continues its military operations in Gaza, where the situation remains dire, with reports of significant casualties and the ongoing challenge of hostage recovery. The Israeli military has also reported targeting Hezbollah sites in southern Lebanon, aiming to dismantle missile launchers and weapons caches as Hezbollah seeks to re-establish activity in the region. In recent days, Israel has struck Hezbollah positions in areas such as al-Rayhan, Niha, Burghaz, and al-Qatrani, disrupting their attempts at rearmament.

Geophysical activity persists; a 5.2 magnitude earthquake struck near Semnan in Iran, at a depth of 10 kilometers, raising concerns given the proximity to Iranian missile and nuclear sites, including the nearby base of the Revolutionary Guard. Iran itself reported a 5.5 magnitude quake near Saman, close to a nuclear facility, but Iranian authorities dismiss fears of nuclear testing linked to seismic activity.

On the diplomatic front, the United States continues covert communications with Iran. According to a White House source, US Special Envoy Steve Vitkoff maintains regular dialogue with Iranian officials, even as President Trump’s administration reviews security arrangements. French Foreign Minister Jean-Nicolas Barrow indicated that Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abdessamad Arakchi, expressed willingness to discuss all issues, signaling some openness despite Tehran’s firm stance on its nuclear program.

Domestically, Israeli security remains on high alert. During missile alerts, a 51-year-old woman in Karmiel suffered a fatal heart attack in a shelter, highlighting the psychological and physical toll of ongoing attacks. Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant, have reiterated their resolve to continue military operations aimed at neutralizing Iran's nuclear and missile threats. Netanyahu, on a visit to the Weizmann Institute damaged by Iranian missile strikes, emphasized Israel’s strength and determination to eliminate existential threats, asserting that Israel’s response is measured yet resolute.

Internationally, the US Supreme Court has allowed victims of attacks in Israel and the West Bank to sue Palestinian authorities for damages, affirming the legal pathway for American victims seeking justice. Additionally, the world's largest shipping company, Maersk, announced it would suspend all commercial shipping to t
