Today, I’m once again joined by Alexandria Soccer Association Executive Director Tommy Park to dive into the ever-evolving landscape of club soccer. We explore the ongoing tension between club and high school soccer, particularly in light of restrictions some leagues and teams place on high school participation.Coach Tommy also shares updates on recent developments in the youth soccer scene, including the introduction of MLS Next 2—a second division within MLS Next—and a potential shift back to school-year-based eligibility instead of birth-year.We also discuss Alexandria’s semi-pro team, the "Reds," and how such leagues like this help support player development, even for college athletes looking to stay in form over the summer and youth players needing an additional challenge. We wrap up with a look at what’s happening at ASA, including their “Access4All” initiatives and the continued emphasis on maintaining a strong, inclusive club structure. It’s always a great and insightful conversation with Coach Tommy!
