कस्यचन वणिजः गृहे प्रभूतः कार्पासः अस्तीति ज्ञात्वा कश्चन चोरः तं चोरयितुम् आगतः । कार्पासस्य बन्धनाय यावत् वस्त्रं प्रसारितवान् तावता चतुरेण वणिजा जागरणं प्राप्य मन्दम् उत्थाय वस्त्रम् अपसारितम् । कथञ्चिदपि कार्पासं नेतव्यमिति निश्चित्य स्वस्य युतकम् ऊरुकं च प्रसारितवान् यत् वणिजा अपसारितम् । चोरः निर्वस्त्रः जातः । ततः वणिक् गृहसदस्यान् जागरय्य चोरं बद्धवान् । एवं वणिजा स्वबुद्धिमत्तया चोरः गृहीतः ।

A thief once learned that a merchant's house contained a large stock of cotton and arrived at the merchant's house. As he started spreading out a cloth to bundle the cotton, the clever merchant, who had been roused from his sleep, quietly removed the cloth. Determined to take the cotton at any cost, the thief then spread out his own shirt and trousers to tie up the cotton. Once again, the merchant removed them. Consequently, the thief ended up completely naked. The merchant then woke up his household members and captured the thief.
