It all started about two and a half years ago when we decided to try for a baby naturally. I was 36 then, full of optimism. But month after month, nothing happened. After a year of trying, we went to a fertility specialist. The results were tough to hear: my follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) level was 21, and my anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) was a disheartening 0.12—both signs that my egg reserve was low. Tom’s tests weren’t much better. He had a low sperm count, poor motility, and sperm DNA fragmentation. The doctor was kind but blunt: our chances of conceiving naturally were slim.
