BETA Quartet Concert and 'Anthems of Dialogue'

Episode 904 Published 11 months, 2 weeks ago
Description
BETA Quartet is visiting Blackwood Arts on June 22nd for a night of profound music! Three of it's members, Dr. Cassandra Eisenreich, Tatianna Cassetta, and Dr. Eftihia Arkoudis, talk about their upcoming concert. BETA Quartet is an award-winning ensemble who reimagine the flute quartet with transformative music that explores improve, beat-boxing, and many other art forms. The group was first formed 9 years ago at West Virginia University as a student chamber ensemble. Now, with their fourth member, Meg Brennan, the group commissions new music for socially-driven projects. One of those projects is "Anthems of Dialogue". This project explores how music can bridge community gaps and drive societal progress by addressing urgent themes. The project features three new commissioned works from Caroline Davis, Erin Spencer, and Jose Valentino. The group talks about Caroline's three movements, "anti-oppressive", "absolute zero", and "revoluliberation". The entire piece confronts the critical role of communication in the fight for justice, especially in the prison system. Erin's piece, "Borrowed Earth", reflects on the impact our actions have on the planet's future. Jose's "Power Surge" captures the unpredictability of the current global turmoil, blending multiple cultural influences. Lastly, BETA will perform at the National Flute Association Convention in Atlanta this summer, and hope to release a third album soon. You can hear BETA Quartet on Sunday, June 22nd at 2 pm at Blackwood Arts in Harrisville. The concert will be followed by a reception with the artists.
