The gray rock method, also known as gray rocking, is a tactic used to deal with manipulative or abusive behavior.

The goal is to become uninteresting and unengaged so that the other person loses interest. Some say that the method reduces conflict and abuse.

The method involves:

• Being the most boring and uninteresting person you can be when interacting with a manipulative person
• Deliberately avoiding eye contact
• Not showing emotions during a conversation
• Remaining neutral
• Keeping interactions “trim and slim”
• Avoiding sharing information that could potentially be turned against you

if the person continues to barrage you, you can have a few prepared statements ready,

such as “I am not going to respond to that”.

You can also keep your interactions as short as possible, and choose electronic communications, such as text or email
