We are so happy to finally share with you a conversation Patrick had with Eunice Reynolds, a member of the congregation of Toronto and Patron since April 21.  

Eunice had the privilege of traveling twice to Israel in her younger years and to actually walk the foot-journey from Jerusalem to the town of Emmaus as described in Luke's Gospel.  In the course of the conversation it became clear that Eunice has truly had a kind of 'long walk' to Emmaus in her life.  Echoing this, she wrote to me after our conversation, "I woke up this morning thinking that if I'd thought about how to introduce myself yesterday, I probably would have said that I'm a person who has spent most of my adult life unlearning what I thought I knew..." Is that not part of what must happen for the scales to fall from our eyes that we might actually see Him?

We hope your summer journeys have still taken place in some way - whether in your own reading and learning or in your actual travels.  As Marcel Proust once said, "The real voyage of discovery consists, not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes."

Perhaps this conversation about traveling to Israel and Emmaus might serve to take you even further.
