If the Toronto Raptors were to draft Maryland big Derik Queen or Illinois guard Kasparas Jakučionis, they would need to be absolutely elite on the offensive end to justify it. In Episode 1887, Sean Woodley goes solo for his last show pre-paternity leave to try and get a second opinion on Derik Queen and Kasparas Jakučionis, two prospects he's been largely out on as fits with the Raptors in the lead up to this draft -- but can a second viewing of both change his mind? Off the top, Sean talks about Queen's very fun face up game and post craft as a scorer and the passing flashes that make him pop as a short-roller before digging into the defensive limitations and sub-elite offensive skills that make him just too tough a fit to envision succeeded next to Scottie Barnes. Next, Sean talks about Jakučionis, who flashes all kinds of cool passing craft and plenty of good shooting indicators, but runs into trouble any time he tries to turn the corner without the help of a screen; is his offensive game too limited to counter balance what will probably be a very low defensive ceiling? Lastly, Sean fields a listener question about offense/defense balance, and gets into why using Nikola Jokic and Tyrese Haliburton as examples of poor defenders leveling up in the playoffs isn't terribly helpful for a team like Toronto, which simply does not employ such generational offensive talents.
