Ecclesiastes 9:10

Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. 

Philippians 2:14-15 

Do all things without murmurings and disputings: 15That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.

WHEN YOU EXCEL IN HUMBLE DUTIES GOD WILL LIFT YOU UP IN HIS OWN TIME‼️DON’T BEMOAN YOUR MISFORTUNES, CHEERFULLY DO THE NEAREST DUTIES EVEN IF THEY ARE UNPLEASANT GOD WILL REWARD YOU.

1 Samuel 17:34-35

And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father's sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: 35And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. 

Proverbs 26:13-16

The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets. 14As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed. 15The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth. 16The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can render a reason. 

While David was thus living in the retirement of his humble shepherd’s life, the Lord God was speaking about him to the prophet Samuel. “And the Lord said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided Me a king among his sons.... Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the Lord. And call Jesse to the sacrifice, and I will show thee what thou shalt do: and thou shalt anoint unto Me him whom I name unto thee. And Samuel did that which the Lord spake, and came to Bethlehem…. All the household of Jesse were present, with the exception of David, the youngest son, who had been left to guard the sheep, for it was not safe to leave the flocks unprotected. – {Patriarchs and Prophets p. 637.2}

THE HUMBLE DUTIES DONE WITH DISTINCTION ARE THE BEST PREPARATION FOR HIGHER RESPONSIBILITIES.

James 4:10

Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.

Luke‬ ‭16:10‬ ‭RSV

“He who is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and he who is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much.”

God was teaching David lessons of trust. As Moses was trained for his work, so the Lord was fitting the son of Jesse to become the guide of His chosen people. In his watchcare for his flocks, he was gaining an appreciation of the care that the Great Shepherd has for the sheep of His pasture. – {Patriarchs and Prophets p. 644.1}

IF DAVID HAD NOT BEEN HUMBLE ENOUGH TO DO A LOWLY DUTY CHEERFUL PROBABLY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SHEPHERD PSALM  THAT HAS CHEERED MANY A TROUBLED SOUL THROUGHOUT THE CENTURIES WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN WRITTEN.

Psalm 23:1-6

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. 3He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. 4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. 5Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. 6Surely goodness and mercy..

We are to look upon every duty, however humble, as sacred because it is a part of God’s service. Our daily prayer should be, “Lord, help
