Patricia McCarty's New Album - Crossings

Episode 898 Published 11 months, 3 weeks ago
Description
Acclaimed violist and soloist, Patricia McCarty, has a new collaboration album with Bill Zito out called "Crossings". Anna Singer talks with Patricia by phone about the albums origin, repertoire, and her approach to the whole project. Patricia talks about first meeting Bill Zito at a concert venue in the Adirondacks. During the COVID-19 pandemic, their collaboration grew! They decided to explore and create an album around a diverse range of music for viola and guitar. The album includes pieces by Telemann, Paganini, Roberto Sierra, and a newly commissioned piece by John Hawkins. Patricia talks about arranging many of the pieces on the album herself for viola. "Crossings" was recorded at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, which McCarty used in her "Bach Suites" album as well. Patricia loves the collaboration between herself and Zito, as she rethought the vibrato and acoustic balance of both instruments. Lastly, Patricia highlights their upcoming performance together at Lake George's Grace Memorial Chapel. She also has a concert with Robin Cameron-Phillips. She is looking forward to her next project soon! You can hear Patricia McCarty's new album "Crossings" on WQED-FM 89.3, or online at https://www.patriciamccarty.com/.
