The time is now 07:01 AM in New York, I'm Noa Levi and this is the latest Israel Today: Ongoing War Report.

At 7:01 in the morning, the situation across Israel and the surrounding region remains highly tense as the conflict continues to unfold on multiple fronts. Reports indicate that Israel’s military operations are actively targeting Hamas infrastructure in Gaza, following recent intense exchanges. Palestinian sources report that the Israel Defense Forces struck two residential towers in the Hamas-controlled Hamed Khatri project in northern Khan Younis, while ongoing fighting in the area continues to involve airstrikes and artillery bombardments.

In the southern Gaza Strip, reports from sources in Gaza suggest that Israeli forces have taken control of areas east of Salah ad-Din Street in Khan Younis, advancing into parts of the city’s center and southern districts. The military is reportedly working to encircle the city, with strikes also targeting northern neighborhoods, including the Hamed district, where high-rise buildings have been hit to prevent sniper attacks. Heavy destruction continues to be reported in Jabalia as well, where systematic demolition of buildings occurs, many of which are booby-trapped, further complicating the military operations.

Meanwhile, Israel has confirmed the elimination of a Hamas terrorist involved in the October 7, 2023, Nova music festival massacre. The targeted killing of Arafat Diab, a senior Hamas operative linked to the Sheikh Radwan Battalion, was carried out in an airstrike on May 31, which also targeted a police station and promoted terror activities. This operation is part of Israel’s broader campaign named “Operation Gideon’s Chariots,” aimed at dismantling remaining Hamas and Islamic Jihad strongholds in Gaza.

On the security front, Israel announced the interception of a Gaza-bound aid vessel, the Madleen, which was en route from Italy. The vessel was stopped in international waters by Israeli forces to prevent it from reaching the Palestinian territory amid ongoing hostilities. The aid boat, part of the international effort to alleviate Gaza’s severe food shortages, was seized after attempts by activists, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, to reach Gaza. Israel stated that the blockade remains essential to prevent weapons smuggling and militant activity, despite international pressure for increased humanitarian aid.

In the diplomatic arena, Iran has announced it will soon submit a counterproposal to the United States regarding its nuclear program, following a recent IAEA report that uncovered evidence of Iran conducting secret nuclear experiments, including implosion tests that are closely associated with nuclear weapon development. The report also highlighted a significant increase in Iran’s stockpile of highly enriched uranium, raising fears of rapid nuclear escalation. Iran’s rejection of the US proposal and its accusations of Western interference have heightened tensions, with the IAEA calling for Iran’s full cooperation to clarify unresolved safeguards issues.

Additionally, the United Nations and various international bodies continue to monitor the situation in Gaza and Israel, amid reports of ongoing violence, civilian casualties, and destruction. The UN has expressed concern over the rising death toll, which has surpassed 54,000 in Gaza since the start of the conflict, with many civilians caught in the crossfire.

Back home, Israel faces a political crisis as coalition partners threaten to dissolve the government over disagreements related to military drafts and legislative reforms. The ultra-Orthodox Shas party announced its intention to vote for dissolving the Knesset, po
