Story Transcript:

En: Ljubljana was bathed in sunlight that late spring day.

Sl: V starem mestnem jedru je potekal srednjeveški sejem.
En: In the old city center, a medieval fair was taking place.

Sl: Ulice so bile polne ljudi.
En: The streets were full of people.

Sl: Barvite stojnice so ponujale vse od domače obrti do slastnih dobrot.
En: Colorful stalls offered everything from homemade crafts to delicious treats.

En: The air smelled of spiced meat and sweet pastries, while music and laughter echoed from all directions.

En: Matej was walking among the stalls with his daughter Maja and sister-in-law Katja.

Sl: Od smrti svoje žene je Matej težko našel pot nazaj do Maje.
En: Since his wife's death, Matej had struggled to reconnect with Maja.

En: The girl was quiet, closed off in her world of memories.

En: Katja gently held Maja's hand, her occasionally mixed expressions showing concern for both.

Sl: "Vidva morata poskusiti to gobovo pogačo," je rekla Katja, poskušajoč vnesti kanček lahkotnosti.
En: "You both have to try this mushroom pie," Katja said, trying to inject a bit of lightness.

En: Matej gave Maja an encouraging smile, and she nodded slightly before biting into the pie.

Sl: Njeni oči so se zdelo obudile, a le za trenutek.
En: Her eyes appeared to awaken, but only for a moment.

En: Matej longed for more—he wanted back the joy he once shared with Maja.

En: At one of the stalls, people were invited to join a folk dance in the square.

Sl: "Poglej, Maja," je rekel Matej, "Mogoče lahko plešemo.
En: "Look, Maja," Matej said, "Maybe we could dance."

Sl: "Maja se je zmrdnila.
En: Maja frowned.

Sl: "Nočem," je dejala trmasto.
En: "I don't want to," she said stubbornly.

En: Katja placed a hand on Matej's shoulder.

Sl: "Bodi potrpežljiv, bratec," je zamrmrala.
En: "Be patient, brother," she murmured.

En: However, Matej felt he had to do something.

En: He earnestly wished for Maja to see how he was trying.

En: He joined the dance, despite feeling uneasy.

En: With each step, he hoped she would join him.

En: But Maja, instead of watching him with a smile, suddenly ran toward the edge of the fair.

En: Matej's heart jumped, and he quickly set off
