Diddy's Lawyers Go Scorched Earth Over The Testimony Given By Dr. Dawn Hughes (5/26/25)

In this letter to Judge Subramanian, attorneys for Sean Combs renew and support a prior motion to strike the testimony of the prosecution’s expert witness, Dr. Dawn Hughes, who they argue repeatedly violated the court’s limitations on the scope of her testimony. Despite the court sustaining several objections during her direct examination, the defense contends that Hughes consistently disregarded the court’s rulings by offering expanded responses that went beyond the prosecutors’ questions. They assert that these actions were not only persistent but appeared to be deliberate, making it impossible to keep her testimony within the court’s set boundaries.

The defense further argues that Hughes's testimony, particularly regarding victim coping mechanisms and memory, strayed from her disclosed areas of expertise and introduced inadmissible material. They claim her memory-related assertions amounted to speculative “junk science,” designed to shield government witnesses from credibility challenges by implying that any memory lapse is inherently legitimate. This, they argue, is not valid expert testimony but rather a vague, all-encompassing narrative tool meant to reinforce the prosecution’s case regardless of the facts. As such, they request that Hughes’s entire testimony be struck from the record.
