आसीत् कश्चन वरेण्यनामकः राजा यः धर्मानुयायी प्रजावत्सलः च । तस्य पतिव्रता धर्मपरायणा च पत्नी पुष्पका कदाचित् कञ्चित् विलक्षणं शिशुं प्रसूतवती । चत्वारः हस्ताः, मुखे दन्तः च आसन् तस्य । विलक्षणशिशोः जननं ज्ञातवता राज्ञा शिशुं सरोवरे त्यक्तुम् आदिश्यते । सरोवरस्य समीपे आसीत् पार्श्वमुनेः आश्रमः । प्रतिदिनं सरोवरे स्नानं कर्तुम् आगतवता मुनिना एषः शिशुः दृष्टः । परमात्मास्वरूपः अयं शिशुः इति मत्वा तम् आश्रमं प्रति अनयत् । तस्य पत्नी दीपवत्सला नितरां सन्तुष्टा जाता । एवं जन्मदात्री पोषयित्री चेति उभे मातरौ स्तः इत्यतः सः बालः द्वैमातुरः इति ख्यातः जातः ।

King Varenya was virtuous and cared for his people. His wife, Pushpaka, gave birth to a unique child with four arms and a tusk. Disturbed by this, the king ordered the child to be abandoned in a lake. Nearby, Sage Parshva lived in a hermitage and often visited the lake. He found the child, saw its divine nature, and brought it to his hermitage. His wife, Deepavatsala, happily took the child in. With two mothers—one who gave birth. and the other who nurtured—the child was named "Dvimaatura," meaning "the one with two mothers.
