In Lesson 62, we are going to study the last part of 1 John 2:24.

Let’s read this part of the verse:

1 John 2:24...If what you heard from the beginning abides in you then you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.

Now, let us go over the definitions of the words.

* If what you heard (1437. ean)(191. akouó) — means if what you listened to or comprehended by hearing.

* From the beginning (575. apo) (746. arché) — means from or away from the beginning or from the origin.

* Abides in you (3306. menó) (1722. en) (4771. su) — means continues in, dwells in, or remains in you.

* Then you also will abide (4771. su) (3306. menó) — Means you will also continue in, stay in, or remain in.

* In the Son (1722. en) (3588. ho, hé, to) (5207. huios) — Means in the Son of God.

* And in the Father (2532. kai) (1722. en) (3588. ho, hé, to) (3962. patér)— Means and in the heavenly Father.

In other words, if what you have listened to and understood from the beginning remains, dwells, or continues in you, then you also will remain, stay, and continue in the Son of God and in the Heavenly Father.

This verse contains both a condition and a promise.

Here is the condition: That you remain in the message you heard from the beginning, which is the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Here is the promise: You will continue to live in close fellowship with both the Son and the Father.

This means that it's possible to drift away from the truth if you don't actively let it remain in you. To "let it remain" means to intentionally hold on to the Gospel and let it shape your daily life.

Here are the main points of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Remind yourself of these regularly.

* God loves you and wants you to experience an abundant, eternal life with him (John 3:16; John 10:10).

* All have sinned and fall short of God's standard (Romans 3:23).

* Sin separates us from God both now and for eternity. (Isaiah 59:2; Romans 6:23; Ephesians 2:1-3)

* Jesus is the Son of God, fully God and fully man. (<
