Story Transcript:

En: Mateja sat on her veranda, watching the blooming cherry trees that adorned the street and breathing in the fresh spring air.

En: There was something peaceful about the view of the neighboring neighborhood, where people walked their dogs or tended to their gardens.

Sl: Nenadoma je zazvonil telefon.
En: Suddenly, the phone rang.

En: "Mateja, it's Gregor," announced the voice on the other end.

Sl: "Ne počutim se najbolje.
En: "I'm not feeling well."

En: Gregor was her neighbor and a reliable friend, always smiling and ready to work in his garden.

Sl: Pravzaprav je bil sredi obrezovanja grmičevja prejšnji vikend, ko sta nazadnje klepetala.
En: In fact, he was in the middle of trimming bushes the previous weekend when they last chatted.

En: Mateja felt a sense of unease slowly spreading through her body.

Sl: "Gregor, prihajam," je rekla odločeno.
En: "Gregor, I'm coming over," she said decisively.

Sl: Hitro si je nadela plašč in stekla čez cesto.
En: She quickly put on her coat and ran across the street.

Sl: Njihove hiše so bile blizu, ločene le z nizkimi ograjami in cvetočimi vrtnicami.
En: Their houses were close, separated only by low fences and blooming roses.

Sl: Ko je prispela do vhoda, je potrkala trikrat in takoj vstopila.
En: When she reached the entrance, she knocked three times and immediately went inside.

En: Gregor was sitting on the couch, pale and visibly weak.

En: Mateja knew at once that he needed more help than she could provide.

En: Her heart tightened with concern, but then an idea came to her.

Sl: Anže, novi sosed, je bil mlad medicinski študent.
En: Anže, the new neighbor, was a young medical student.

En: Mateja barely knew him, but without hesitation, she ran back home and knocked on his door.

En: The young man was surprised, but he quickly grasped the seriousness of the situation and went with Mateja to Gregor.

Sl: Ko sta prispela, je Anže takoj stopil k Gregorju in začel preverjati njegove simptome.
En: When they arrived, Anže immediately went over to Gregor and began checking his symptoms.

Sl: Mateja je stala ob strani z občutkom nemoči, a Anžetova mirnost jo je pomirila.
En: Mateja stood by, feeling helpless, but Anže's calmness reassured her.

En: Following his advice
