What is The Unmasking of the Holy Spirit series all about?

A note from Pastor Derek:

Of all the changes we have to endured during this Covid - 19 Pandemic, the hardest one for me is adjusting to a mask. Not because I’m opposed to it but rather because of how it makes me feel.  I feel distant and less personal when I’m wearing it.  This is the opposite of who I am and how I want to feel.  Sometimes I want to just yell out  in the grocery store or wherever I’m wearing a mask, “ Hey, I’m not infected, I’m just wearing a mask because I have to.”

When it comes to the person and work of the Holy Spirit there are far too many Christians who fear the Spirit as if He’s carrying a virus.   Sadly, they are taught to fear what the Spirit might do to them.  It doesn’t help that the old English translation for Spirit is Ghost.  How many people entering the church today were raised in an era of horror movies, where the thought of a Holy Ghost coming on someone can be a little threatening.   Adding to this negative image sadly there are those who teach that some works of the Holy Spirit should be ignored, even worse feared because they can’t wrap their brain around it.

The prophet Joel prophesied of a time in which we are living in today.  That God would pour out His Spirit on all flesh.  Isn’t it prudent then that we learn as much as we can about the Spirit while He’s being poured out?

It’s time that the church boldly talks about the person and works of the Holy Spirit.  This is why for 9 weeks we will be talking about the Holy Spirit more specifically, how He is moving on the earth now. He wants to move in our lives.  I’ve entitled this series  “ Unmasking the Holy Spirit”
