Saigon on Steroids?, Pakistan's role in supporting the Taliban, US support for those who helped us,  US Reputation around the World

==============================
Retired US Diplomat to 5 different nations  David Hunter shares his knowledge, passion, interest, and experience.

Today's Agenda:
1)  Saigon on Steroids?  The collapse of the Democratic government of Afghanistan  in less than a week is shocking.  It started crumbling after Pres. Biden announced in April that he was going to fully withdraw US troops by Sept 11th.   As of this week, there were US helicopters flying back and forth from the Embassy to the Hamid Karzi Airport, the only airport still open.  Did we abandon Afghanistan to the terrorists?

2) Pakistan's role in supporting the Taliban:   Did Pakistan's 26 yr effort in support of the radical Islamist group Taliban lead to the current collapse?  How did they continue helping the Taliban while also claiming to help the US fight terrorism in the region?

3) US support for those who helped us:  There is a Special Immigrant Visa program set up to help those who worked closely w/ US Government and International Security Forces.  The SIV program had 18,000 pending applicants about 3 months ago when we talked about this.  What will happen to all these applicants now that the US Embassy is shut down?

4) US Reputation around the World:  If the US cannot support it's ally, the Republic of Afghanistan, can other countries who rely on US promises be assured we will come to their assistance?   Taiwan is being threatened by China.  Ukraine is being attacked by Russia.  Will they be abandoned too?
