Episode 39 - Getting Out of God’s Way - When Our Pride Hijacks the Pulpit

Season 2 Episode 39

Episode 39 - Getting Out of God’s Way - When Our Pride Hijacks the Pulpit

I wasn’t planning on recording this episode. I almost pulled an old teaching from the archives. But during an open share group with another pastor, some deep reflection surfaced—and I knew I had to hit record. In this episode, I share two stories from my past as a pastor that forced me to ask hard questions about pride, performance, and control. One where I preached while sick, and another where I thought I was “on fire” from the pulpit… until my wife gave me a dose of truth. I dig into Romans 5 and wrestle with the difference between Spirit-led obedience and adrenaline-fueled pride. And I ask:

  • Does God really need my performance to change lives?
  • Am I trying to serve… or trying to control?
  • Is it the Holy Spirit moving… or just my ego in disguise?
If you’re a pastor or ministry leader struggling to surrender what you think God needs from you, this one’s for you.

🎵 Also includes the debut of a new original worship song written from this experience: "When I Get Out of the Way" — a Casting Crowns–inspired reminder that grace flows better when we let go.
