Yemen Threatens Retaliation Over Israeli Strikes
Hezbollah Commander Killed in Lebanon Clashes
International Pressure Mounts as Gaza Ceasefire Fails
The time is now 04:00 AM in New York, I'm Noa Levi and this is the latest Israel Today: Ongoing War Report.
Today, at 4 a.m., Israel remains under significant military pressure across multiple fronts. The Israel Air Force intercepted a drone coming from the east, believed to be launched from Yemen, marking another escalation in the ongoing multi-front conflict. Yemen's Houthis threatened retaliation after Israeli airstrikes in Sanaa damaged the airport, causing an estimated half-billion dollars in damages. The strikes left thousands stranded abroad and crippled Yemen's aviation sector, which now operates with only one functioning aircraft.
Meanwhile, Israel continues its operations in Lebanon, where recent strikes targeted two vehicles in Sidon and other locations, resulting in the death of a Hezbollah commander, Adnan Harb, who was released from Israeli custody in 1985. The Lebanese army reported that IDF forces also struck in the southern city of Tyre. The escalation in Lebanon comes amid heightened tensions and fears of broader regional conflict.
In Gaza, efforts are underway by mediators to establish a new ceasefire proposal, which would include safe corridors and humanitarian aid distribution points. These negotiations are taking place under intense international pressure, particularly from the United States, which has expressed concern over the limited aid delivered through the Gaza pier, operational for only twenty days and providing just one day’s worth of supplies. The US military reported injuries among sixty-two troops, with one fatality.
In Yemen, the Houthis issued a stark warning to Israel, promising “devastating” revenge if Israeli actions persist. They accused Israel of targeting civilian infrastructure, including Sana’a Airport, and threatened chemical attacks with imagery suggesting potential strikes on Israel’s nuclear facilities and industrial sites.
Across the region, Israel's military also engaged in operations in Syria, targeting two Hezbollah-associated vehicles in the last 24 hours, as well as in Lebanon. The Israeli government remains firm in its stance that these actions are necessary to defend its sovereignty amid the rising threat from Iran-backed proxies.
Iran continues to carefully balance its approach, seeking negotiations with the United States over its nuclear program while distancing itself from direct involvement in Houthis’ attacks on Israel. Iran’s foreign minister indicated that indirect talks with the US are being considered but postponed amid escalating tensions and US demands for dismantling Iran’s nuclear capabilities, which Iran rejects. Iran also faces internal security challenges, with arrests of Iranian nationals in the UK on suspicion of terrorism, though Tehran has offered to cooperate with investigations if allegations are credible.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has issued a stark warning, stating that the world cannot afford a military confrontation between India and Pakistan, as tensions remain high along their border, especially over Kashmir. In Israel, political tensions persist, with Prime Minister Netanyahu requesting to delay his court testimony scheduled for June 16 due to his son’s wedding.
In other developments, Israel’s police uncovered a suspect on the roof of Be’er Sheva City Hall, and in the Negev, a man was arrested for planning a terrorist attack. The Israeli domestic scene also includes ongoing efforts to combat organized crime, with recent seizures of firearms and drugs in Rishon LeZion.
In France, Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa’s visit to Paris signals a cautious step toward normalization, with President Macron emphasizing France’s support for a free and sovereign Syria. The vis
