Baidyanath Jyotirlinga, one of the 12 sacred Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, is a revered pilgrimage destination in India. Located in the Deoghar district of Jharkhand, it is also known as Baba Baidyanath Dham. The site holds immense spiritual significance and is regarded as a powerful place for worship and healing.

* The Tale of Ravana:According to Hindu scriptures, Ravana, the demon king of Lanka, performed severe penance to please Lord Shiva. As an offering, he began sacrificing his ten heads one by one. Pleased with Ravana’s devotion, Shiva appeared before him and granted him the Jyotirlinga, with the condition that it should not be placed on the ground until it reached Lanka.On his way back, Ravana placed the linga on the ground at Deoghar to perform certain rituals. Despite his efforts, the linga became rooted in the spot, making it a sacred site.
* The Legend of Sati:Another mythological tale suggests that Baidyanath is the site where Lord Shiva performed the Tandava (cosmic dance) after Sati’s self-immolation.

* Main Temple:The Baidyanath Temple follows the North Indian Nagara style of architecture. The temple tower rises 72 feet high and is adorned with a golden spire. The sanctum sanctorum is made of granite stones.
