🕉️ Mythological Significance & Mysterious Origins
🪷 The Great Test of Devotion
According to ancient texts and folklore, Lord Shiva once wanted to test which of his sons—Ganesha or Kartikeya—was wiser and more devoted. He challenged them to race around the universe.
* Kartikeya set off on his peacock, the divine mount, to physically circle the world.
* Ganesha, reflecting, simply circled his parents, claiming “My universe is you both.”
Pleased with Ganesha’s wisdom, Shiva gave him the fruit of knowledge. In a dramatic display of sacrifice, Kartikeya offered his entire skeletal form to his father and soul to his mother—an act of absolute bhakti.
It is said that Kartik Swami Temple houses the symbolic remains (bones) of Lord Kartikeya, making it the only temple in India where he is worshipped in this skeletal form—a mystical and rare concept in Hinduism.
