Ever been at a conference and immediately spotted the person who…

is doing way too much?

This episode starts there — with the kind of behavior that somehow shows up at every event, no matter the industry.

We get into the people who treat conferences like a competition — not for networking, not for learning…

but for how much free stuff they can grab before anyone else does.

Not one item. Not a couple things.

We’re talking:

  •  grabbing multiple giveaways from the same booth
  •  circling back repeatedly
  •  loading up bags like they’re stocking a supply closet

And doing it in a way that everyone around them notices.

There’s a moment in the conversation where it becomes clear this isn’t just about free swag.

It’s about awareness.

Or more accurately… the lack of it.

Because while most people are trying to:

  •  have conversations
  •  make connections
  •  not look out of place

there’s always someone operating like none of that matters.

From there, the conversation expands into the broader experience of conferences — especially the awkward side of them.

The forced networking.
The conversations that don’t quite land.
The moments where people are clearly trying too hard… or not trying at all.

We also get into the unspoken rules that everyone seems to understand — except the people who need to understand them the most.

Things like:

  •  reading the room
  •  knowing when to step in (and when not to)
  •  and realizing that how you show up matters just as much as what you say

At one point, the discussion shifts into how quickly these behaviors shape perception.

Because at a conference, you don’t get much time to make an impression.

And sometimes it only takes one moment for people to decide:

“Yeah… I’m good.”

And that’s where it lands.

Because none of this is complicated.

It’s just the difference between:

  •  being intentional
  •  and being completely unaware

And if you’ve been to enough conferences…

you already know exactly who we’re talking about.
