Episode 866 Published 1 year, 1 month ago
Description
A native of Washington, PA, organist Paul Jacobs returns to the area for a performance with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra! Paul talks about the program, which features Alexandre Guilmant's Symphony No. 1 in D Minor. Manfred Honeck will conduct the show at the St. Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe. Paul talks about the musical appeal of the symphony, and the balance between organ and orchestra. He also talks about his past performances of the Symphony, including with the River Oaks Chamber Orchestra in Houston. Paul reflects on his past schooling, and how Julliard is fairing today with it's organist training. Now currently teaching at Julliard, Paul emphasizes the amazing talent he sees in his students, and his advice for them today. Finally, Paul shares his views on various pipe organs throughout the U.S., and the current organ stars of today. He hopes young musicians prioritize artistic integrity over showmanship. You can hear Paul Jacob's perform with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra on Wednesday, April 30th at 7 pm at Saint Vincent Archabbey in Latrobe. There is a pre-concert reception at 5:30.
