Ellyn Lem PhD is a Professor of English and Gender Studies at UW-Milwaukee-Waukesha. One of her courses is 'Women in Popular Culture'. She is the author of a new book: Gray Matters: Finding Meaning in the Stories of Later Life. Dr. Lem's research for Gray Matters involved a survey of over 200 persons over age 65, some with further phone conversations. It combines cultural texts, gerontology research, and observations from older adults that gives us all a fuller picture of the struggles and pleasures of aging and avoids over-simplified representations of the process as all negative or positive.
