काचित् दरिद्रा महिला कृष्णभक्ता आसीत् । रोगग्रस्तस्य पत्युः चिकित्सायैः सर्वं धनं व्ययीकृतम् आसीत् तया । कृष्णजन्माष्टमीदिने विशेषभोजनं सज्जीकरिष्यामि इति पुत्रान् उक्तवती आसीत् । तस्याः दृढविश्वासः आसीत् यत् देवः कमपि मार्गं दर्शयिष्यति इति । वस्तूनि क्रेतुं यदा आपणं गतवती तदा निर्धनां तां महिलां 'देवस्य कृते लिखितं प्रार्थनापत्रं तुलायां स्थापयतु, अहं तद्भारतुल्यानि वस्तूनि ददामि' इति नास्तिकः आपणिकः उपहासम् अकरोत् । आश्चर्यं नाम वस्तुसहितः घटः अधः न गतः एव । यः वास्तविकः भक्तः तस्य रक्षणं भगवान् करोत्येव इति अचिन्तयत् आपणिकः। अनन्तरं देवस्य परमभक्तः अभवत् सः ।
(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)
There was a poor woman who was a devotee of Krishna. She had spent all her money on her husband's treatment. On the day of Krishna Janmashtami, she told her children that she would prepare a special meal. She had a strong belief that God would show her a way. When she went to the shop to buy items, a non-believer shopkeeper mocked her saying, ‘Place the prayer letter written for God on the scale and I will give you items equivalent to its weight’. To everyone's amazement, the scale with the letter did not go down, even when items were added. The shopkeeper realized that God truly protects those who are sincere devotees. Eventually, he became a true devotee of God.
