Story Transcript:

En: Pokljuka was beautiful on that spring morning.

En: The sun shyly peeked out from behind clouds that occasionally shed some remaining snow.

En: As soon as Matej and Nina arrived by bus from the city, they were enveloped by the lively atmosphere of the artisan market.

Sl: Vonj po sveže pečenem kruhu in dimljenih klobasah je vabil vsakogar.
En: The scent of freshly baked bread and smoked sausages tempted everyone.

En: Nina had her plan—to find the most beautiful ceramics, while Tina was excited about all the unique items she wanted to take back to the city.

Jurija.
En: Matej, however, had a very specific goal: to find something that would delight his grandmother for the celebration of St. George's Day.

Sl: Trg je brenčal od življenja.
En: The market buzzed with life.

Sl: Pod visokimi smrekami so stale pisane stojnice, polne čipk, rezbarenja in keramike.
En: Under tall spruces stood colorful stalls full of lace, carvings, and ceramics.

Sl: Matej je neodločeno prebiral vso to lepoto.
En: Matej indecisively browsed through all this beauty.

En: Everything was wonderful, but nothing seemed special enough to him.

En: “What if we split up?” suggested Matej.

En: “We can meet back here in an hour by the bench.”

Sl: Tina in Nina sta se strinjali.
En: Tina and Nina agreed.

Sl: Matej je začel pozorno raziskovati stojnice enega za drugim, a povsod so bile podobne stvari.
En: Matej started to carefully explore the stalls one by one, but everywhere he saw similar items.

Sl: Lepa keramika, prefinjene vezenine, a nič, kar bi ga navdušilo.
En: Beautiful ceramics, exquisite embroideries, but nothing that thrilled him.

Sl: Nato je naletel na stojnico, kjer so prodajali ročno izdelano čipko.
En: Then he came across a stall selling handmade lace.

Sl: Njegova babica je nekoč sama izdelovala čipke in Mateja je takoj prevzela nostalgija.
En: His grandmother used to make lace herself, and Matej was immediately filled with nostalgia.

En: Just as he wanted to buy one of the beautiful white laces, he heard someone else also wanted the same lace.

Sl: Matej se je za trenutek ustavil.
En: Matej paused for a moment.

Sl: Razmišljal je.
En: He thought.

En: Was it really important to get this exact lace, or might it be more meaningful and heartfelt to choose something else?
