The time is now 07:00 AM in New York, I'm Noa Levi and this is the latest Israel Today: Ongoing War Report.
Today, Israel remains under multi-front pressure amid ongoing military operations and regional tensions. Israeli forces have successfully targeted and eliminated Muhammad Zakharana, the third suspect involved in the January attack in al-Funduq that resulted in the deaths of three civilians. In a coordinated operation in northern Samaria, security forces engaged militants who exchanged fire, including shoulder-fired missiles, before Zakharana and two others were killed. Weapons, ammunition, and a ceramic vest were recovered, and additional suspects have been detained for further investigation.
Meanwhile, across the region, hostilities continue with reports of renewed violence. In southern Lebanon, there are reports of an attack on a motorcycle, leaving casualties, according to local sources. The Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, linked to Hezbollah, reported an Israeli strike on a vehicle in the Wadi al-Jarir area. This follows Israeli military actions in the area, including the recent killing of a Hezbollah operative in the Kantara region during an airstrike. The Israeli Defense Ministry confirmed that aircraft targeted and neutralized a Hezbollah fighter affiliated with the Radwan Forces earlier today, amid ongoing exchanges of fire.
In the Gaza Strip, the Israeli Defense Ministry announced plans to resume humanitarian aid deliveries, emphasizing that aid would be distributed directly, bypassing Hamas, to prevent the militant group from controlling supplies. This initiative drew swift criticism from government factions and opposition parties, with many arguing that aid should not be reintroduced until Hamas is defeated. Israeli officials clarified that, at present, no aid will enter Gaza, but future mechanisms are being considered to prevent Hamas from exploiting such assistance.
On the diplomatic front, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reaffirmed that uranium enrichment is non-negotiable, asserting Iran’s right to continue its nuclear program. This stance follows remarks by US envoy Steve Witkoff, who called for Iran to halt enrichment activities. Iran’s leadership is playing for time, seeking to extend negotiations while avoiding major concessions, amid regional setbacks inflicted by recent conflicts and losses of key proxies. The ongoing talks in Oman between US and Iranian representatives are viewed with cautious optimism but remain fraught with tension.
In Lebanon, reports indicate renewed violence with a motorcycle attack in southern Lebanon, causing injuries, and Israeli airstrikes targeting Hezbollah positions. The Israeli military also confirmed the destruction of a Hezbollah terrorist in southern Lebanon during recent operations. These escalations come as Israel continues to respond to threats from Hezbollah and other Iran-backed groups.
In a controversial incident in the United States, Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy publicly mocked UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell, known for his anti-Semitic comments, by wearing a kippah and waving an Israeli flag during a fight, sending a strong message against hate speech. The event drew widespread attention, highlighting the intersection of sports, politics, and social issues.
Meanwhile, in the UK, the Supreme Court upheld the definition that a “woman” under equality laws refers to a “biological woman,” ruling that gender recognition certificates do not alter legal protections under the law. This decision reinforces traditional legal standards amid ongoing debates over gender identity legislation.
