Episode 840 Published 1 year, 1 month ago
Description
The last show of New Hazlett Theater's CSA season is launching at the end of April! CSA Lead Artist Joanna Abel, dancer Christine Andrews, and musician Aidana Yntykbayeva, talk about their production of "Dragonfly Dawn". This show features belly dancing, aerial arts, puppetry, and live music in a story about good vs evil. A swan is lured to a mystical forest lake where they dance with dragonfly friends, before being attacked by evil harpy's. Joanna talks about her inspiration, which came from her yearly Enchanted Creature Ball's. With Dragonfly Dawn, she creates a storyline with all the magical creatures. Christine talks about performing in the production with Joanna, and what the difference is between belly dancing and Kalbeilya dance. She also talks about studying in India, and her work with her sister over the years. Aidana describes her instrument, which she will play live on stage. An ancient stringed instrument, the kobyz was once thought to heal sickness with its music. Aidana looks forward to bringing the instrument of her home, Kazakhstan, to Pittsburgh audiences.
