In this episode, I talk about the cultural differences between China and the U.S. when it comes to long-distance driving. I recently went on a six-hour road trip with colleagues for a conference, which felt quite normal to me—but my parents in China thought it was way too far to drive. I reflect on how Americans are used to long road trips due to geography, affordable gas, and good highway infrastructure, while in China, people often prefer high-speed trains or planes for similar distances. I also invite listeners to share what kind of travel feels “far” to them.
这期节目，我聊了聊中美两国在“远近”上的不同感受，特别是开车这件事。我刚和同事拼车去外地开会，单程开了六个小时，在美国这是很正常的事，但我爸妈听了觉得太远了。我也分享了美国人习惯长途开车的原因，比如地广人稀、油价便宜、高速免费等，而中国人更常坐高铁或飞机出行。最后我也欢迎大家留言分享，什么样的出行对你来说才算“远”呢？
