Vilaya Dance Festival with Nandanik Dance

Episode 834 Published 1 year, 1 month ago
Description
Nandanik Dance, a classical Indian Dance Troupe, is presenting a festival! Director Nandini Mandal, and students Shriya Narasimhan and Pavithra Dante, talk with Anna Singer live about their upcoming dance festival, Vilaya The Confluence. Nandini talks about creating this dance troupe after emigrating to the U.S from Kolkata. She hopes to preserve, promote, and share all forms of Indian Classical dance in Pittsburgh. One of the ways is through their yearly festival, Vilaya. The festival brings together four different dance groups in one night! Shriya and Pavithra talk about their introduction to dance, and why they continue with it today. Both hope to continue it when they graduate high school. All three talk about their favorite parts of Indian Classical dance, and what audiences can look forward to during the festival. It is a night of colorful costumes, beautiful makeup, and different styles of dance! You can see Vilaya The Confluence from 4 to 7 pm on April 12th at the New Hazlett Theater.
