Stan
Description
“Humans don’t create. We find connections between things that others don’t see.”
Inspiration comes from any and everywhere.
Case in point, a lot of people may or may not know the musical artist Dido. She’s a singer from the UK and personally I know her but mostly from a song collaboration that she did with an American artist. Let's put a pin in that for a second and we’ll come back to it.
The song Thank You may or may not be a song you know. However, if I started to play it for you, I strongly believe that you would recognize it within the first 30 seconds.
Thank You is a song that Eminem’s huge hit Stan samples from directly. The songs share the same chorus. Eminem has said that he’s gotten inspiration from that song to write Stan. He viewed the song Thank You as the story of an obsessive fan. In contrast, if you listen to Dido’s original song, it’s actually a very sweet song.
Why am I bringing up the connection between these two songs.
Aside from the fact that I’m a pretty big Eminem fan, I want to acknowledge that inspiration in creativity can come from anywhere.
Run to it.
Search for it.
It’s always there. We are all able to see creative things in this world, but those deemed creatives are just able to find it in places that others would typically gloss over.
Think of anything you’ve ever made that started with you having a stroke of inspiration. It wasn’t random!
