The Walk for Andrea - Food Allergy Awareness

The Walk for Andrea - Food Allergy Awareness

Published 9 years, 4 months ago
Description
The Walk for Andrea was started to honour the memory of Andrea Mariano (1997-2015). Andrea was a first year University student who died on Sep 18, 2015 after sipping a drink she bought on campus. Her death was due to an anaphylactic reaction to either dairy or peanuts both of which she was allergic to. The funds raised by the Walk for Andrea go to the Sick Kids Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis program in order to find a cure for life threatening food allergies. Dr Jyoti Parmar is a general dentist and the mother of 3 children, 2 of whom have multiple anaphylactic food allergies, eczema & asthma. Jyoti and her husband Peter Deboran, a Toronto Public School Board Vice Principal, co-founded the Walk for Andrea to help find a cure for food allergies and to honour the memory of Andrea Mariano (1997-2015). The first annual walk was held on Sunday October 2, 2016 just north of Toronto.
