कस्मिंन्श्चित् प्रासादे काचित् सेविका राज्ञः शय्यागृहस्य स्वच्छतासमये राज्ञः मृदुलां स्थूलां शय्यां दृष्ट्वा शयनसुखानुभवेच्छया शय्याम् आरूढवती । महान्तं हितानुभवे प्राप्ते अचिरात् एव तया निद्रा प्राप्ता । अल्पे एव काले राजा राज्ञी च तत्र आगतौ । शयानां सेविकां दृष्ट्वा राज्ञः कोपः नितरां प्रवृद्धः ।  राजा कशाम् आनाय्य प्राहारम् आरब्धवान् । सेविका हसितुम् आरब्धवती । किमर्थम् अयं व्यवहारः इति पृष्टे सेविकया दत्तेन उत्तरेण राज्ञः कर्तव्यताबुद्धिः जागृता भवति । किं तत् उत्तरम् इति कथां श्रुत्वा ज्ञास्यामः ।

In a certain palace, a maid, while cleaning the king's bedroom, saw the soft and luxurious bed and desired to experience its comfort. She climbed onto the bed and soon fell asleep, enjoying its great comfort. Shortly after, the king and queen arrived there. Seeing the maid sleeping, the king's anger greatly increased. The king fetched a whip and began to strike. The maid began to laugh. When asked why she was laughing, the answer given by the maid awakened the king's sense of duty. What was that answer?
