Dunn claimed he acted in self-defense, alleging Davis threatened him and brandished a weapon, though no weapon was found.In February 2014, Dunn was convicted on three counts of attempted second-degree murder for shooting at Davis's friends but faced a mistrial on the first-degree murder charge. A retrial in October 2014 resulted in a first-degree murder conviction, leading to a life sentence without parole plus 105 years.Dunn's appeals, including one to the Florida Supreme Court in 2020, were unsuccessful.The case highlighted issues of racial bias and gun violence, drawing national attention.
