Description

Just after 1 am, aspiring lawyer Lauren Mullins drives home after a night of drinking in Cambridge, Massachusetts. As an MIT cop and a man driving a moped slow down for a red light, Mullins makes no effort to brake. Mullins slams into the moped, sending it flying into the back of the cop car. The moped driver, 73-year-old Daniel O'Neil, is rushed to the hospital with serious injuries. Cambridge PD find Mullins extremely intoxicated and belligerent. The Suffolk University law student is charged with Operating Under the Influence causing serious bodily injury and negligent operation of a vehicle.

Officers were unable to conduct a standardized field sobriety test due to the defendant's belligerent nature and behavior, but they did note she had slurred speech and was extremely unsteady on her feet. The 32-year-old has a history of alcohol-related arrests. Her rap sheet dating all the way back to 2014, with seven arrests in the last three years. The charges range from disorderly conduct to aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer.

O'Neil, driver of the moped, sustained serious bodily injury, but was expected to survive at the time of her arraignment.  O'Neil later succumbed to his injuries. Now the defendant is facing motor vehicle homicide.
