Back to Episodes024: "So We're Playing Ourselves" - D&D as a form of Identity Exploration
Description
BUCKLE UP FOR A FUN ONE, FOLKS!
In this episode, I invited my partner and current D&D campaign DM -- Donnie (he/they) -- to join me and Rachael (she/her) for a fun chat about the intersection of identity and role play in Dungeons & Dragons.
We reflect on our long-running campaigns, personal connections to our characters, and how storytelling in D&D allows for self-exploration. Donnie, a longtime storyteller and our current campaign DM, shares how their goblin artificer, Gorple Flint, embodies many of their real-life traits, reinforcing the campaign’s lighthearted tagline: "So, we’re playing ourselves."
You'll even get to hear us do a little bit of play in character -- can't wait for y'all to hear my voice for my character, Gnunt, who is a Firbolg Bard.
I think Rachael was a bit mystified, but very intrigued, by this entire episode, so even if D&D is not your jam, I think you'll still enjoy this one.
Do you play D&D? DM me (haha, get it?) so we can be nerds together!
