Morning Espresso, 3.28: Bayern yells at Canada Soccer, Chelsea quadruple chase on

Welcome in for another edition of the Morning Espresso from the SDH Network, brought to you by Oglethorpe University, Atlanta's premier undergraduate learning experience and soccer powerhouse.

First it was Alphonso Davies' agent yelling at Canada Soccer about Alphonso Davies' knee injury, now it's Bayern Munich. The club came out today and accused Canada Soccer of "gross negligence" and said they could take the situation to court as Davies was given the all-clear by doctors with the Canadian national team but Bayern doctors found the torn ACL. It's a mess all the way around.

Chelsea's women are chasing the quadruple after their quarterfinal comeback to eliminate Manchester City in the UEFA Women's Champions League. 3 first half goals overturned the 2 goal advantage held by City after the first leg. With the League Cup trophy already in the bag and a sizable lead in the Women's Super League, Chelsea is in the semifinals of the Champions League and the FA Cup. Can the Blues do it?

MLS weekend ahead, our broadcast of Atlanta United vs. NYCFC will start with pregame coverage at 6:30 on 92.9 The Game and the Audacy app with kickoff coming up at 7:40pm. MLS Six Pack is coming up later today on our audio and video platforms, where we'll learn more about Chicago's great form so far in 2025.

The league has also signed some additional linear distribution deals internationally for Sunday Night Soccer (Portland vs Houston this week) to expand the international coverage they get from Apple TV.

Plenty more in the Espresso, but one more that I found interesting. La Liga F, the top flight women's league in Spain, is asking FIFA for permission to use the new "Football Video Support" system next season. They do not have VAR currently, FVS is seen as a more cost-effective way to have a form of replay. The service is expected to utilize two coaches' challenges per match with the fourth official involved in using the replay from the TV broadcast cameras available.

More Espresso coming on Monday on the SDH Network, presented by Oglethorpe University.
