During the 1950s and 1960s, as part of its broader efforts to counter communist expansion, the CIA supported Tibetan efforts to resist Chinese control following China's 1950 invasion of Tibet. In this capacity, the central intelligence agency played a pivotal role in saving the life of none other than the Dalai Lama.
