When a panicked 911 call came from a Virginia home in February 2023, police thought they were responding to a violent home invasion. But inside, they found something far stranger, a nurse (Christine Banfield) stabbed to death, a man shot twice, and a husband with a story that didn’t quite add up.

What began as a supposed act of self-defense soon unraveled into an alleged plot involving an au pair (Juliana Pereira Magalhães), a fake online persona, and a marriage built on secrets. Investigators say the truth behind the Brendan Banfield au pair affair murders is darker — and more calculated — than anyone imagined.
