Body Found Dismembered Off US 60 ID'd as Missing Girl Emily, 14

Published 11 months, 2 weeks ago
Description

Emily Pike, 14, sneaks away from the group home in which she's living. When Emily doesn't return, Mesa Police are contacted and she is reported missing.  Her mother is not informed until she has been missing for a full week. Police say it is up to the group home to contact her case manager who would then have contacted Pike's family or tribe. Authorities post her picture on social media, print flyers, and send out messages to the media, saying Emily Pike is missing and has possibly run away.

Nearly a month after Pike disappears, the Gila County Sheriff's office reports the remains of an unidentified female have been found in a wooded area near US 60, 20 miles northeast of Globe, Arizona.  The remains are not easily identifiable but appear to belong to a missing  Native American girl. The confirmation identification is made as 14-year-old Emily Pike, within 24 hours.

The Gila County Sherrif's Office posts information that detectives found the head and torso in large contractor trash bags and the legs were found in separate bags. Detectives search the area but fail to find the arms and hands.  This information was not intended for the public, it was only for law enforcement, but friends and family all hear the shocking details without warning  A preliminary autopsy report finds the teen had visible face and head trauma. No identifying clothing, jewelry or identification is found with the remains. The cause of death is still undetermined.   Investigators believe Emily Pike was killed in a place other than where her dismembered remains were recovered. Her arms and hands have yet to be found.

The Sheriff's office says they have been able to recover video surveillance footage from Mesa where Emily was last seen alive, but have not been able to find footage from the mostly rural area where her remains were found. The sheriff's office is asking for anyone with information to please reach out .

The San Carlos Apache Tribe is offering the $75,000 reward in the hunt for Emily's killer.
