Ep. 26: Aziz Rana on Democracy as a Decolonial Project

Published 1 year, 2 months ago
Description

Luke speaks with Aziz Rana about the importance of viewing the Trump administration through the lens of constitutional critique, the need for a majoritarian political system that also recognizes the particularities of U.S. history, and Indigenous and Black struggles for democracy, universal and equal rights, and a different constitution.

Last year, Aziz appeared on the Democratic Consitution Podcast, Cosmopod, and Class (parts one and two). He’s the author of two books — The Two Faces of American Freedom and The Constitutional Bind — and several articles, including “Democracy Was a Decolonial Project.” During the discussion, Luke mentions Maggie Blackhawk’s article, “On Garrison, Douglass, and American Colonialism.”
