Description
Surf's Up Beach Watchers! This is your coastal conditions report for the New York metro beaches on this cloudy September Sunday.

Heads up - we've got a high rip current risk across all our local shorelines until 6 PM, so beach lovers need to exercise serious caution. The surf is looking pretty active with waves around 3 to 4 feet, creating potentially dangerous swimming conditions.

Temperatures are hovering in the upper 60s with an easterly wind blowing 15 to 20 miles per hour. Expect cloudy skies with a chance of rain, so pack a light jacket and maybe skip the sunscreen today.

Water temperatures are sitting in the mid to upper 60s - definitely wetsuit territory for any water warriors thinking about catching waves. The UV index is low, but that doesn't mean you should let your guard down.

Low tide times are rolling through midday - Coney Island sees low tide at 12:03 PM, Jones Inlet at 11:55 AM, and Shinnecock Inlet at 12:07 PM. Sunset comes early today at around 6:40 PM, so plan your beach time accordingly.

Pro tip from the lifeguards: if you're tempted to enter the water, don't. These are treacherous conditions with life-threatening rip currents. If you somehow get caught in a current, remember to float, not fight - swim parallel to shore and signal for help.

Beach safely out there, New York! These waters are not messing around today.
